World Bank Group Job Category : Economics

The World Bank Group is one of the largest sources of funding and knowledge for development, its primary focus is to fight against proverty and improve the living standarts of people in the developing world. The World Bank Group has ten offices in seven cities in Indonesia with over 250 staff, one of the largest pools of development professionals in the world, working hard to support Indonesia’s development program.

TRADE ECONOMIST
The World Bank is looking to hire an economist focusing on foreign trade policy, whose main tasks will be to implement the World Bank’s Dutch Trust Fund-Trade Policy Program activities and integrate them with the Bank’s ongoing work on improving the investment climate. Specifically, the person will:

1. Play the major role in assessing the government’s proposed bilateral and regional trade agreements and thier implications on export growth, investment inflow, and welfare, and coordinate with domestic and international advisory groups.
2. Provide assessments and advise the government on export facilitation plocies in view of improving export competitiveness.
3. Produce monthly reports on international trade and policy issues and coordinate acroos Bank team.
4. Advise the government on issues of tariffs and non-tariff barriers that restrain the flow of international trade as well as on institutional and regulatory constraints that affect competitiveness in the economy.

Qualifications and Experience
The person should have the following background : master’s degree in Economics; minimum 5 years of relevant work experience (previous work with development agencies and in developing countries would be an advantage); strong theoretical base in subject area, combining a broad grasp of relevant theory and principles and of involved practices and precedent; ability to translate theory into practical applications in the context of Bank work; good management and diplomatic skills (direct working expeience with governments would be a strong advantage); ability to speak and write fluent English and Bahasa Indonesia, capacity to train others; ability to work independently and oversee short-term consultants; and excellent interpersonal skills.

Management
The candidate selected will report to Sector Coordinator of the Financial and Private sector Unit of the World Bank Office in Jakarta. He/She will provide deliverables (policy notes, briefings and update on activities). This is a local based recruitment, and he/she will be based full time in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one more year.
